Ric Dolphin is president of Dolphin Media Inc., an Alberta company based at the provincial legislature in Edmonton, from where it publishes Insight Into Government, a widely read, politically and financially independent, weekly newsletter about politics in Alberta. Ric took over the newsletter from its previous owner Mark Lisac, who published the newsletter for eight years after acquiring it from Rich Vivone, who founded Insight in 1986.
Ric is a veteran journalist who got his start reporting from the tobacco fields of southwestern Ontario, but came to Edmonton in the early 1980s to cover politics and other matters for Alberta Report, where he rose to executive editor, before moving on to senior writing and editing positions with Maclean's Magazine in Toronto and the Globe and Mail in Vancouver. Along the way he won a number of writing awards, including two National Magazine Awards.
In the early 1990s, Ric returned to Edmonton to work for the Edmonton Journal and later the Calgary Herald for whom he wrote provincial affairs columns from the Alberta Legislature in the 2000s. He later founded and ran the national government affairs newsletter Provincial & Territorial Report, while continuing to write a political column for the magazine Western Standard. He has also authored and edited several volumes of Alberta in the Twentieth Century, served as deputy-editor of The Christians: Their First Two Thousand Years, a 12-volume history of Christian civilization, and has written political speeches, including for the prime minister of Canada, and has served as a constituency association president at the provincial level. He currently has no political affiliation.
Ric became publisher of Insight Into Government in July 2013.
